Writing An Artist Statement
I am now putting together my portfolio to apply for some internships, residencies, and work-trade programs at art studios in NYC. Writing an artist statement is kind of......exhausting.
I feel like I can't even begin to explain my art without explaining [probably] more than anyone cares to know about my childhood. I see examples of artist statements and they include very little biographical context, but perhaps the work being referenced is not as deeply autobiographical as mine. Do you have any experience writing artist statements for work that is very personal and autobiographical?
Any advice?
